585,534. Pipe joints. SUTTON, A. W. Oct. 5, 1945, No. 25928. [Class 99 (i)] A joint for pipes A comprises two or more clamps C, each formed as part of a ring and each having radially extending lugs c at its two ends, through holes in which are passed bolts B for drawing the clamps together; the inner surface of each clamp has a wide annular groove c<2> containing moulded rubber packing D formed as part of a ring of dimensions such that it projects slightly from the under surface of the clamp along its entire length and such that its internal diameter is slightly less than the external diameter of the pipes A, and so that on tightening the bolts B the rubber packings are compressed to form a seal on the pipe ends and with each other at their ends. A groove d may be formed in the rubber packings to allow for non-alignment of the pipes.
