Abstract

1,219,043. Pipe couplings. MACHINEFABRIEK V/H ROGIER-NERINCX-RICHTER N.V. 7 Oct., 1969, No. 49220/69. Heading F2G. A fluid-tight spigot-and-socket pipe coupling having sealing means which can be used on existing pipe joints, comprises a multi-segment clamping ring 4, the segments being clamped together by axially wedge-shaped dovetail clamps 11 engaging complementary pairs of shoulders 9 on adjacent segments, which engages a flange 5 on the socket pipe 2 and at the other end comprises an inward conical flange 6 acting on an intermediate ring 7 which in turn presses an elastic sealing ring 8 against the end of the socket pipe and on the outer surface of the spigot pipe 1. The clamps 11 have raised parts 12 in the dovetail joints. The intermediate ring 7 may comprise a number of segments, interlocking by dovetail joints 13, and may have lugs 16 engaging the conical face 6 of the clamping ring 4, to accommodate the extra axial length between the conical face 6 and the end of the flange 5, where the flange is thin. The sealing ring 8 may be of hexagonal crosssection, as shown, and may also be split so that it can be positioned on an existing pipe joint.
