Abstract

932,001. Pipe joints. STANTON & STAVELEY Ltd. March 7, 1962, No. 8737/62. Class 99(1). [Also in Group XXIII] A pipe joint comprises a socket 2 formed at the end of one pipe co-operating with a spigot 1 of a second pipe, a spring anchoring ring 7, having a chamfered inner peripheral edge 9, engaging shoulders of both pipes to limit relative axial movement. A rubber, lead nosed sealing ring 3 is locked in the mouth of socket 2 by a gland ring 4 and nut and bolt assembly 5. The anchoring ring 7 is removed from its groove 6 by a tool 10 comprising a number of metal strips curved in lateral cross section which slide between the spigot 1 and socket 2 to engage the chamfered portion of the anchoring ring 7 and so expand the ring 7. The form of the outer periphery of ring 7 may be conical, conoidal or cylindrical which surfaces co-operate with a conical, conoidal or right angular shoulder respectively of socket 2.
