This ring 86, which may be a conventional 0-ring, is squeezed between the end edges 18 of the flared collars to provide sealing when the interior of tubes 10 is under reduced pressure. To facilitate its installation the ring 80 may be split at 88, so that the separate halves can be inserted between the ends 18 individually.
