Abstract
1,041,181. Pipe joints; joint-making packing. BTR. INDUSTRIES Ltd. Jan. 8, 1964 [Jan. 10, 1963], No. 1240/63. Headings F2B and F2G. A jointing ring composed of two dished metal washers 1 welded together around one pair of their circumferences, outer 2 or inner (not shown), whilst their other circumferences, inner 3 or outer (not shown), are spaced apart is located in a joint between the ends of two pipes 9 and 10 associated with means 12 to clamp the two ends together to compress the spaced-apart circumferences together (Fig. 3, not shown) and to make each sealingly engage its adjacent pipe-end. The ring fits into a space provided by recesses 5 in the flanges 11 of the pipes, the axial length of the space provided being less than the combined thickness of the two washers. Fig. 2 shows an arrangement suitable for a pipe subject to internal pressure. If the pressure is external the ring is formed by welding together the inner circumferences of the washers.
