Abstract
839,450. Pipe joints. JOHNSTAD, O., [trading as HEDMARK JERNSTOPERI.]. Jan. 2, 1959, No. 243/59. Class 99(1). In a pipe coupling a flanged socket 1 having a facing 15 for bolt heads 13 is provided, internally and spaced from its open end, with a circumferential inwardly protruding rib 2 which acts as a guiding and centring ring and as a sealing face, and at its open end with a rim or bead 6 with an inside diameter smaller than the largest diameter of the adjacent packing space 7, the coupling being so shaped that the socket can be used either as a bolted socket joint or as a lead-packed joint and allows for lengthwise and sidewise movement of the pipe relative to the socket. As shown, the bolted joint comprises a rubber packing ring 5 and a gland 11 secured by bolts 12 to the socket. The lead joint consists of caulking tow 4 and lead packing 9 secured in a groove 8 on the inside of the rim 6. A support gland 10 is used to support the lead packing 9 when the coupling is a reinforced lead joint.
