Abstract

751,118. Securing gears &c. to shafts. RINGFEDER GES. Feb. 12, 1954 [Feb. 12, 1953], No. 4259/54. Class 80(2) A rigid coupling is shown as connecting a gear-wheel to its hub. and is constituted by at least one resilient part, fitting in recesses in the hub and wheel, expanded radially to fill completely the recesses by the application of an axial force or fluid pressure which is reducible, so that the part can contract radially and be removed from the recesses. In one form, the separating surfaces 7, Fig. 1, between a hub 1 and a toothed rim 2 are interrupted by recesses for a bolt 3, surrounded by coned clamping rings 4. 5 expanded to fill the recesses when a nut 6 is tightened. In one modification (Fig. 3, not shown), six bolts &c. are provided, and in another (Fig. 5, also not shown), the separating surfaces are cone shaped. In another form, two gear-wheels 13, 14, Fig. 6, having radially directed separating surfaces, are connected by similar bolts and clamping rings 16 &c. As shown in Fig. 7, a resilient cone-shaped member 18 is located in the recesses. In another form, a sleeve 19, Fig. 8, is closed by sealing means 20 and a screw 21 and is filled with a substance which expands on heating to force the sleeve into engagement with the walls of the recesses. Such a substance is solid carbon dioxide, which is converted at normal temperatures to a gas at high pressure. Plastic materials &c. may be connected to steel &c. by the method described.
