Abstract

836,197. Joint-making packing. DOWTY SEALS Ltd. June 28, 1957 [July 2, 1956], No. 20438/56. Class 122 (3). [Also in Group XXV] A joint between two relatively fixed members connected by a cylindrical component, such as a threaded component 14, which is either separate or integral with one of the members, is sealed by a sealing ring 6 of resilient material having sealing faces 9, 10 on opposite sides of the ring for engagement with plane joint faces of the members and an integral annular inward projection 13 disposed axially between the sealing faces, the internal diameter of the projection 13 being less than and the inner diameter of the sealing faces 9, 10 being greater than the diameter of the component 14 whereby, before making the joint, the sealing ring can be resiliently located on the component 14 by deformation of the projection 13. The ring 6 may be of rubber, synthetic rubber or other resilient synthetic material and is bonded to the inner surface 7 of a metal confining ring 5. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the ring 6 and the projection 13 are both rectangular in cross-section. Specification 576,233 is referred to.
