Abstract

852,507. Piston packing; stuffing-box substitutes. PIONEER OILSEALING & MOULDING CO. Ltd. Jan. 24, 1957 [Jan. 25, 1956], No. 2408/56. Classes 122 (1) and 122 (5). A rubber &c. sealing- ling adapted to seat in a groove of one member and abut another member to be sealed is of generally rectangular cross-section with end faces each presenting two flat surfaces 11, 12 and 13, 14 separated by a recess 17, 18 for engaging opposed walls of the groove and at least one sealing lip 15, 16 or 19, 20 on the outer or inner periphery for engaging the member to be sealed. Several sealing lips, as in Fig. 1, or a single sealing lip 43, 44, as in Fig. 4, may be provided on the inner and outer peripheries. The lips may be sharp or rounded.
