Abstract
918,242. Securing universal joint members on Shafts. GELENKWELLENBAU G.m.b.H. July 8, 1959 [Jan. 27, 1959], No. 23431/59. Class 80 (2). A coupling between a tubular propeller shaft 1 and universal joint fork 5 comprises a flange 2 bent from the shaft 1 and clamped between a clamping member 3 and flange 4 of the fork 5 by bolts 6, the flange 2 or member 3 being serrated to increase the frictional grip. The bolts may pass through the flange 2 to provide a positive coupling. In Fig. 3 (not shown) the flange is formed on a separate tubular member which is welded to the propeller shaft. In Fig. 4 an inwardly-directed conical flange is bent from the shaft 1 and clamped between a clamping member 9 and coned surfaces of the fork 5 by a bolt 10. In Fig. 5 (not shown) the flange is conical and outwardly directed. In Fig. 7 (not shown) a sleeve is provided between the clamping member and flange. The universal joint fork member may be plastic.
