821,207. Universal joints. CRANKSHAW, J. H. Dec. 24, 1957 [Jan. 25, 1957], No. 40060/57. Class 80 (2). A torque transmitting coupling for use in boats comprises an outer sleeve 28 connected by resilient sleeves 40 to an inner sleeve 38 carried by a shaft 10, inwardly pointing plugs 44 threaded into the outer sleeve 28 having reduced ends 72 lying freely in holes 73 in the inner sleeves 38 to limit the lost motion between the outer sleeve and the shaft. The resilient sleeves 40 are vulcanized to the inner sleeves 38 and to sleeves 39 locked within the outer sleeve 28 by the plugs 44. Dynamic balancing of the coupling can be effected by screwing the plugs 44 in and out. A driving hub 11 has external teeth 15 transmitting torque to a hub 17 fast with the outer sleeve 28, and the shaft 10 has an end hub 55 having internal teeth engaging teeth 65 on a driven hub 12.
