Abstract

1,061,279. Universal joints. SOC. LUXEMBOURGEOISE DE BREVETS ET DE PARTICIPATIONS. Nov. 9, 1964 [Nov. 7, 1963; June 17, 1964], No. 45593/64. Heading F2U. A constant-velocity-ratio universal joint connecting two shafts A, B comprises an intermediate plate 5 carrying axial pins 9 secured within the inner sleeves 7 of rubber &c. bushes 6 fast in holes around the edges of plates 1, 2 on the shaft ends. End rings 14 hold the outer sleeves 8 of the bushes 6 in their holes, and nuts &c. 13 secure the inner sleeves 7 on the pins. The pins 9 may alternatively be shaped as at 9 1 . The hubs 3, 4 of the plates 1, 2 may be centred by various ball-and-socket joints (20), Figs. 4 ... 6 (not shown), or one hub may be integral with a ball (20) extending into a hole in the middle of the plate (5), Fig. 7 (also not shown). To resist the bending stress of centrifugal force acting outwardly on the pins 9, Fig. 8, the ends of the latter remote from the plate 5 may be secured to mounting rings (5a) surrounding and coaxial with the hubs (3, 4), Figs. 11, 12 (not shown).
