Abstract

The pipe (1) is joined to a fitting (2) by means of a nut (20) and a collapsible sleevE. The sleeve has an internal flange which is clamped between the end faces of the pipe (1) and fitting (2). The wall of the sleeve tapers towards the opposite end which has a rim of trapezoidal section. When the nut (20) is tightened, the axial force causes the sleeve to buckle due to a V shaped circumferential groove at the flange end. This buckling causes the sharp edge of the rim to dig into the pipe (1) to make a seal.
