Abstract

1,162,344. Pipe &c. joints. IMPERIAL METAL INDUSTRIES (KYNOCH) Ltd. 9 March, 1967 [21 March, 1966], No. 12241/66. Heading F2G. [Also in Division D1] A tube fitting comprises screw-threaded members 1, 3 which are engageable one with the other and each have an inner surface for surrounding a tube T, the member 3 including an integral axially extending ring 10 and the inner surface 12 thereof being provided at least partly by that ring; the latter has a free end comprising two annular surfaces 13, 14 which meet to form an annular edge 15 located radially outside the inner surface 12 and the member 1 has a deflecting abutment surface 9 for engagement with the annular edge 15 during relative movement of the members in one direction to screw-threadably engage the members so that the surface 9 solely engages the annular edge along a circumferential line contact which is a point contact with the abutment surface in a cross-section of the members taken along the axis thereof so as to compress the free end of the ring radially inwards into gripping engagement with the tube. The edge 15 may be formed by two annular surfaces 13, 14 neither of which is parallel to the axis of the fitting. In modifications, (a) the member 3 is screwed into the member 1, and (b) the tube is accommodated between two axially-extending rings 10 integral with the member 1.
