Abstract

977,796. Jointing. A. E. JOSLIN. Sept. 11, 1963, No. 35758/63. Headings B3J and B3V. A joint between aluminium, steel, copper &c. pipes 10, 12, comprises a belled end 14 on the pipe 12 and an annular groove 16 in the pipe 10, the pipe 10 being telescoped into pipe 12 until its wall in the region of the groove 16 buckles outwardly against the inside of pipe 12, forming a joint. A fluid-pressure device (not shown), for expanding the pipe 12 to form the belled end, may also be used for telescoping the pipes and continuing the pressure after the end of pipe 10 has engaged the riged 20. This causes both pipes to expand adjacent the groove 16, as shown in Fig. 3. The outside of pipe 10 or the inside of pipe 12 may be coated with a vinyl or polyamide resin which functions as a lubricant during the telescoping operation and hardens forming a seal.
