Abstract
811,879. Shaft couplings. BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO. Ltd. Aug. 30, 1957 [Sept. 6, 1956], No. 27265/56. Class 80 (2). [Also in Group XXV] Means for detachably securing a driving member 1 to a driven member 2 comprises an axially engaged clutch 12, 3 and anchoring means 10, 11 engageable by relative rotary movement to secure a locking bolt 6 against axial movement, the locking bolt being held against relative rotation with the driven member by projections 5 in the wall of an axial aperture in the member engaging serrations 8 on the bolt. Preferably the clutch is a Hirth coupling H and the bolt is threaded into the driving member 1, which may be a turbine disc. Axial movement of the bolt and disengagement of the coupling is prevented by a nut 13 engaging the end of the driven member 2. A second coupling H<SP>1</SP>may connect the member 2 to a further member 17, when the bolt 6 is extended to pass through the member 17 and be secured by a nut 13<SP>1</SP>. The serrations 8 and projections 5 may have clearance to allow selective positioning of the Hirth coupling.
