Abstract
898,164. Securing turbine-discs on shafts. AUSTIN MOTOR CO. Ltd. Feb. 14, 1961 [Jan. 26, 1960], No. 2751/60. Class 80 (2). [Also in Group XXVI] A rotor assembly coinprises a series of coaxial rotor discs which are clamped together by means of a bolt or stud member which extends axially through the rotor discs, the bolt or stud member having a serrated or splined portion which projects from one end of the assembly, a washer having a correspondingly serrated or splined bore being fitted on the bolt or stud member and being in anti-rotational locking engagement with the adjacent face of the rotor assembly, a nut being associated with the washer to clamp the assembly. The assembly shown in Fig. 1 comprises a compressor rotor 1 and a turbine rotor comprising discs 9, 9A, the compressor rotor being mounted on a shaft 2 which is formed with a spigot 4 which engages in and is splined at 5 to a hollow main shaft 6, the shaft 6 being formed with a flange 8 which locates the turbine rotor 9, 9A. The shaft 2, 6 is mounted in bearings 3, 7. A stud member 10 extends through the turbine rotor discs, and through the hollow shaft 6 and is in screwed engagement with the spigot 4 of the shaft 2. The stud is formed with a serrated portion 12 and a screwed portion which project beyond the turbine rotor. A washer 11 having a serrated bore is engaged on the serrated portion 12, the washer also having face splines or radial keys 13 on one face thereof which splines engage face splines 14 formed on the face of the hub of the rotor disc 9A. A nut 15 engages the screwed portion of the shaft and bears against the washer 11. A tabbed locking washer 17 having a pair of notches 18 in its bore is engaged between the rotor disc 9A and the washer 11, the tabs being subsequently bent to lock the nut and the ends of the tabs being secured together by welding or by interlocking. A sleeve 16 is disposed around the shaft 6 and bears against the rotor 1 and the inner race of the bearing 7 so as to transmit the clamping load. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2, a hollow shaft 21 extends through the hub 22 of the compressor rotor, and a bolt 23 extends through the hollow shaft, a flange 25 at one end of the bolt engaging against the inner race of the bearing 3 without abutting the adjacent end of the shaft. The bolt is formed with a land 27 which engages the bore within the shaft 21, and a splined washer 11 and nut 24 are utilized as in the first embodiment. The locking washer however is formed with a serrated bore and engages against the outer face of the washer 11 between the washer and the nut, the tabs being subsequently bent to engage the nut as before. A sleeve member 26 is disposed around the shaft to transmit the compressive load. Specification 898,163 is referred to.
