812,866. Shaft couplings: GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Oct. 2, 1957 [Oct. 18, 1956], No. 30827/57. Class 80 (2). To ensure assembly of a splined joint between two elements 24, 40 of a divided propeller shaft on a vehicle in a single relative circumferential relation appropriate to its three universal joints 18, 16, 20, one splineway of either element, e.g. 40, is occupied by a key 52 which is accommodated by removal of one spline in the other element 24. The key 52 is one leg of a V- shaped spring clip having an inner leg received in the hollow end of the element 40 and welded at 50 thereto. The spline element 24 is carried in an intermediate bearing 22 having guards 34, 36 and a slinger 38 and retained by a screwed ring 30 enclosing a spline seal 48.
