Abstract

651,188. Shaft couplings. AKT.-GES. FUR TECHNISCHE STUDIEN. Oct. 26, 1949, No. 27489. Convention date, Nov. 5, 1948. [Class 80(ii)] In a shaft coupling comprising flanges 3, 5 secured on the shaft ends 1, 2, with connecting bolts 15, two solid discs 7, 8 are interposed between the flange faces, the discs having annular shoulders 9, 10 embracing the flanges so as to strengthen the latter. Rotation of the bolts 15 is prevented by pins 20, and the castellated nuts 22 have cylindrical portions 23 closely fitting within the holes in the flange 3, so as to resist centrifugal stresses in the bolts. Where the two shafts are capable of sufficient relative axial movement, the two discs 7, 8 may be replaced by a single disc, shouldered on each side.
