[Class 108 (iii)] [Also in Group XXIV] In a Hooke's type universal joint the spider 12 has journals 13 on which are slid rubber bushes 14 having out-turned flanges 14a which are clamped, by the axial pressure of a bolt 15 and washer 16, between a shoulder of the spider and the bearing casing of the yokes 10, 11. In modifications the bushes may have flanges at each end, the outer flange being controlled by a cup-washer, or the washer may be reduced in diameter and be within the bearing of a yoke to provide a positive drive after a predetermined compression of the bush. Other modifications are shown in which the journal is partly spherical and in which the intermediate member is formed as a ring.
