Abstract
795,225. Universal joints. MASCHINENFABRIK BUCKAU R. WOLF. AKT.-GES. July 25, 1956 [July 25, 1955], No. 23002/56. Class 80 (2). In a universal joint transmitting axial forces, coupling members 3, 4 each having spherical supporting surfaces 10, 11, 12, 13 are connected to the ends of shafts 1, 2, the coupling members transmitting torque by external teeth 8, 9, whose central plane lies on the spherical centre M, to a corresponding internal toothing 16, 17 of a coupling sleeve 18a, 18b, the coupling sleeve being supported by spherical bearing surfaces 21, 22, 23, 24 disposed on each side of the teeth 8, 9 and lying on a spherical surface 14 which touches the pitch circle of the teeth. The spherical surfaces 10, 11, 12, 13 may be slidable on the coupling members 3, 4 and loaded by springs 26 to prevent axial shock. Lubricant may be added through an orifice 29 and is retained by the spherical seatings. In a second embodiment the halves of the coupling may be connected by an unsupported intermediate shaft.
