Abstract
562,171. Flexible couplings, mountings and the like. METALASTIK, Ltd., and GOLDSCHMIDT, M. Sept. 1, 1942, No. 12292. [Classes 80 (ii) and 80 (iv)] A one-way elastic coupling between shafts or parts loaded in torsion comprises rubber or like material bonded to spiral-like surfaces x-x, y-y, on the connected parts a, b, so that under low loads the rubber is stressed mainly in shear and under higher loads the rubber is stressed more and more in compression. As shown, the surfaces are arcs of equal circles struck out from centres d<1>, e<1>, on a circle concentric with the coupling axis z. As shown in Fig.. 3, b is fixed to a member h keyed to a shaft f and a is fixed to a sleeve j fixed to a shaft g. Bearings k are arranged between the member hand sleeve j. The invention may be applied to engine or like mountings.
