Abstract

942,495. Universal joints. METALASTIK Ltd. June 18, 1962 [June 26, 1961], No. 23114/61. Heading F2U. A universal joint comprises coupling elements 8, 9 pivoted to a flexible disc 10 about axes at right angles and normal to the disc axis such that angular misalignment is accommodated by pivoting of the coupling elements and the disc provides axial, radial and torsional flexibility. The disc may have a central aperture 18 and may be comprised of two discs secured together; the disc being of polyurethane, rubber or like resilient material which may have self lubricating or lubricant retaining properties. Pivot pins 14 engaging directly in bores 19 in the disc, or in bushes, are screwed, riveted or otherwise rigid with forks 11, 12 rigid with the coupling elements 8, 9. In a modification, Fig. 3, the coupling elements 30, 31 are rigid with transverse pins 35 carried in bores 36 in the disc 37, which disc need not be circular.
