Abstract

814,666. Ball joints. CLAYTONWRIGHT Ltd., H. April 30, 1957 [March 20, 1956], No. 8581/56. Class 65(2) The ball member 18 is engaged within the housing 10 by the part-spherical bearing surfaces of two annular bearing liners 20, 21, formed of plastics material such as nylon and disposed so as to engage the ball member on opposite sides of the plane of maximum diameter which is normal to the axis of the ball pin 19 when the pin is centrally disposed (as shown) in relation to the opening 15 in the housing, the inner end faces 24 of the liners being separated by a gap and a lining 14 of rubber or like flexible material being disposed between the liners and the interior of the housing. The rubber lining is bonded to the housing and extends along the annular lip 16 thereof, and the other end of the housing is closed by a rubber washer 25 and a pressure plate 26 held in place by circlip 27. The rubber lining may also be bonded to the plastics bearing liners.
