Abstract

910,969. Ball and socket joints. ENGINEERING PRODUCTIONS (CLEVEDON) Ltd. July 29, 1960 [Dec. 30, 1959], No. 44246/59. Class 65 (2). [Also in Group XXVI] In a ball joint between a housing 1 and a ball-pin 3, dust is prevented from entering the region of the ball 4 and grease from escaping, by a flexible sealing sleeve 5 of rubber or the like secured at one end to the housing mouth 2 by a circlip 7 bearing on a neck 6 and having at the other end a sealing lip 8a dimensioned to make wiping contact with the ball pin 3 or to a member coupled thereto, a rigid annular washer 9 being bonded to the lip 8 on its inside surface to support and locate the lip. The washer 9 may be of metal or other material and may be provided with an inturned lip 9a. A shoulder 10 may be provided on the ball pin 10 against which the washer 9 seats.
