Abstract

896,836. Ball-and-socket joints. BARD, F. N May 27, 1960 [June 15, 1959], No. 18772/60 Class 65(2). A ball joint comprises a first member 10 having a ball 11, an annular second member 13 having a part-spherical inner surface confronting and spaced from the ball, and an annular third member 16 having a partspherical portion 15 spaced between the surface and the ball, an annular liner 23 of antifriction bearing material (e.g. trifluoroethylene polymer) being provided between the surface and the portion 15 and an annular seal 24 (which may be made from tetrafluoroethylene polymer) being secured to the third member and movably sealingly engaging the ball. The member 13 is removably secured to a flange 18 on the member 10, spacers 20 being provided. The liner 23 is retained in a shallow annular recess 21 in the member 13.
