837,108. Ball joints. ENGINEERING PRODUCTIONS (CLEVEDON) Ltd. March 12, 1958 [Dec. 17, 1956], No. 38489/56. Class 65(2) A ball joint comprises a stud 1 with a part-spherical metallic bead 2, a complementary part-spherical pad 4 of synthetic resinous material and an openended socket 6 housing the ball end with the stud projecting freely through an open socket end, the head 2 being seated in a lining shell 7 of synthetic resinous material and the other socket end being closed-by a cap 8. The head 2 and pad 4 are separated by a spring 3 and the lining 7 has a tongue 7a mating with a groove in the cap 8. The end of the socket 6 is peened over the cap 8 and the other end may be closed by a flexible dust cover 13. The synthetic resinous material may be nylon or a polyfluorethylene.
