Abstract

675,967. Universal joints. SILENTBLOC, Ltd., and HUTTON, P. C. May 25, 1950 [May 30, 1949], No. 14433/49. Class 80 (ii). A bevel gear wheel comprises a toothed ring B resiliently connected by rubber or the like to a hub member. A boss A has a rim comprising axial and radial flanges A', A<SP>5</SP>, the flange A<SP>4</SP> having a circumferential.groove A<SP>5</SP>. The ring B is recessed at B<SP>3</SP> and provided with a chamfer or radius B<SP>2</SP>. The annular rubber member C, C' is of L-section and is radially compressed between the ring B and the flange A<SP>4</SP>, the groove A<SP>6</SP> and chamfer B<SP>2</SP> cooperating with the flange A' so the ring B is resiliently keyed against axial displacement on the hub. It is stated in the Provisional Specification that the rubber may have a double convex or a V-section and that the ring and rim may be provided with circumferential grooves. It is also stated that the hub and ring may be formed in two or more annular parts to facilitate assembly.
