Abstract

526,576. Vehicle wheels. RYCROFT, N. CORNER, J. A., and CORNERCROFT, Ltd. March 21, 1939, No. 8908. [Class 144 (i)] A spoke-covering disc for a detachable wheel is detachably secured to an adaptor carried by the permanent hub. As shown, the adaptor consists of a sleeve 9 having a flange or spider 10 fitting between the wheel-centre and the brakedrum 11, and preferably secured to the latter as by setscrews 12. The closed outer end of the sleeve 9 covers the end of the permanent hub 5, and is formed with splines 15 to mesh with splines 16 on a cup 16 carried by the centre 2a of the disc 2. The part 2a, is shown as a separate cap secured by bolts 18 to the disc 2, but may be integral with the disc. In' either case, the disc is secured by a central sleeve-nut 19, carried by a hand-grip or nut 22, engaging a threaded stud 20 projecting from the capped end of the adaptor. To facilitate assembly, the nut 19 is normally pressed axially outwards by a spring 21, and to ensure proper registration of the valve-hole 27 in the disc, this and the bolt holes in the wheel centre are appropriately aligned with the mating splines 15, 16.
