Abstract
127,379. Killen, E. B. May 17, 1918. Disk wheels; double and multiple wheeLs arranged side by side; hubs.-A wheel comprises two dished metal stampings, such as 23, 24, flanged at the periphery to form tyre-retaining members 1, 2 and connected to the hub or axle by means admitting of axial adjustment, the disks being detachably connected to one another by transverse bolts 9. Between the hub and rim, one or both disks may be offset as shown. The axial adjustment at the hub is obtained by means of separate distance-pieces 32, 35, 36, Fig. 4, 10, 31, Fig. 7, and 25, Fig. 6, which may be formed of wood with metal facing-plates. In the form shown in Fig. 4, the flanged rims 1, 2 of the disks are adapted to engage the tyre directly In Figs. 6 and 7, the rims 1, 2 are shown embracing the felloes 15, over which detachable bonding-rings 18, 19 and 20, 21 are fitted to form the tyre seats. Fig. 7 also shows a hub fitting, for adaptation to various types of hub &c., comprising a sleeve 28 having driving-keys 27 to engage the wheels hub and a flange 29 for attachment, permanently or otherwise, to the existing hub &c. flange 30. The fitting may also have a front flange 33.
