Abstract
185,157. Forsyth, G. H. April 27, 1921. Disc wheels. - A disc 24, Fig. 2, is formed with a felloe portion 33 the margin 35 of which is arranged to form a stop against which a demountable rim member 38 is clamped by means of a ring 31 bolted to the felloe, and is dished so that the parts adjacent the hub and rim axe in front of the central plane of wheel and the intermediate part is in rear thereof. The rim-retaining ring 31 takes a bearing on a shoulder 30, and the felloe may be pressed outwards at intervals as shown at 36 in such a manner that the sides 39 of the pressedout portions are not normally in contact with the rim but provide a reserve seating therefor when the wheel is distorted under excessive stresses. The intermediate part of the disc may be formed with two shoulders 28, 25 to bear on the brake drum and hub filling piece 26 respectively, or the shoulder 28 may be dispensed with. In a modification, Fig. 4, the rim is divisible, the inner part 42 being seated on the shoulder 33 and on a stop flange 35 formed by turning the margin of the disc upon itself. The outer member 41 is secured to the inner member, and the complete rim to the disc by bolts 34.
