373,492. Vehicle wheels. WARD, J., Easdale, Mavis Road, Blackburn. Aug. 15, 1931, No. 23031. [Class 144 (i).] A road vehicle wheel provided with pneumatic tyres is made in two main parts such as a, b, Fig. 2, clamped together to hold the tyre which is readily releasable. Only the inner portion of the wheel is bolted to the main hub by nuts. Thus the part a has a central boss c over which the part b is fitted and clamped by a slotted nut d with a turned-in flange d<1>. Spokes a<1>, bl in the example shown are in staggered relation and attached by bolts f and nuts to legs on the opposite members. The wheel can be removed from the axle as a whole. The part a is formed with holes to fit over the usual fastening studs h on a brake drum e. The nut d is slotted to allow the use of a wheel brace. In a modification, Fig. 7, the spokes are not staggered but lie against one another, the parts being connected by lugs j, k and bolts l. The interlocking lugs may be of varied cross section. Further lugs may be employed to prevent relative movement between the parts a, b. In the case of a disc wheel, Fig. 10, the two parts each comprise a disc n and a half rim o. The inner disc has a stepped boss n<1> attached to it which is threaded to engage the nut d. In the case of wire wheels, Fig. 12, spokes p of the inner half connect rims o to a hub q and those of the outer half to an annulus r fitting the hub q and held by the nut d.
