Abstract
438,226. Universal joints. BROWN & SONS (HUDDERSFIELD), Ltd., D., and MERRITT, H. E., Park Gear Works, Lockwood, Huddersfield. Aug. 13, 1934, No. 23295. [Class 80 (ii)] In a flexible coupling for transmitting rotary motion, one of the coupling members b has a series of pins a each surrounded by a series of rubber or like rings e of tapered or trapezoidal cross-section, the outer periphery of each ring being narrower than its inner periphery, and the companion coupling member d has holes c registering with the series of rings. In a modified form, the rings of a series are integrally connected at their inner edges so as to form a bush with annular V-section grooves. During relative axial movement, the rings yield with a kind of rolling motion.
