Abstract

258,333. Large, T. H. June 16, 1925. Rod couplings.-In flexible-disc couplings and like joints, the edges of an annular disc of rubberized cotton or other fabric are beaded or thickened, reinforced by steel or other wire, and clamped frictionally to the members to be coupled. As applied to a shaft coupling, the beaded edges 12, 14 of the flexible annulus 10 are reinforced by wire cores 11, 13 and clamped between circumferentially-grooved flanged shaft members 1, 7 and rings 3, 8. Both the rings 3, 8 may be tightened by bolts, or the inner ring 3 may, as shown, be pressed by a nut 4. In a modification, two or more rings 10 may be used in parallel. The ring or rings may be made in two or more parts.
