Abstract

532,124. Pipe joints ; packing. VICTAULIC CO., Ltd., and JOHNSON, P. G. July 13, 1939, No. 20402. [Class 99 (i)] [Also in Group XXVI] In a joint in which packing is compressed in an annular wedge-section space around a pipe the flexible packing ring c has a number of balls, rollers or wedges d embedded therein so that axial separation of the joint parts tends to jam the balls between them. In the joint shown a sleeve e embraces the pipe ends and the packing is compressed by collars b bolted together. Additional packing rings h may be pressed into the ends of the sleeve. The ring c is frustoconical in section and its joint surfaces are tangential to the balls d. Specification 392,287 is referred to.
