Abstract

324,854. Hume Pipe Co. (South Africa), Ltd. Jan. 7, 1929, [Convention, date]. Sleeve: joints with packing compressed radially on assembly.-In a pipe joint of the kind described in Specification 310,452, wherein fluidtightness between pipes 2, 3 and an encircling, collar &c. 4 is secured by rubber packing rings 6, 7 compressed within a recess 5 therebetween, and in which the packing rings are prevented from being forced out of the recess by lips 9, 10 at the end of the collar, one or both of said lips are provided on an annular member 11 which is secured to the end of the collar, preferably by mechanical means. As shown in Figs. I and III the closing member 11 is provided with radial lugs 12 adapted to pass through gaps 13 in an end flange 14 of the collar and: engage a groove 15 in the collar upon rotation; alternatively, Fig. IV, the closing member is retained in the collar by pins or set screws 16 passing through the two parts.
