Abstract

A gasket comprises a packing 7 of rubber or like material, Fig. 2, located between concentric rings 6, 8, the height of the packing being slightly greater than that of the rings 6, 8, and the inner ring 8 being split so that it is capable of expanding the elastic ring on to the outer ring 6. As applied in a pipe butt joint, Fig. 4 (not shown), the gasket is modified in that the ring 6 is replaced by the inner peripheral wall surface 9 of a recess in the end of one of the pipes. In another pipe joint, Fig. 5 (not shown), the gasket is modified by reversing the positions of the inner and outer rings and constituting the inner ring by an annular collar 16 on the end of one of the pipes.
