Abstract

1,041,441. Joint-making packing; pipe joints. HAWKINS PLASTICS (CANNOCK) Ltd. June 29, 1964 [Jan. 1, 1964], No. 36/64. Headings F2B and F2G. A sealing ring for a spigot-and-socket pipe joint comprises a sleeve of resilient material which has a flared mouth 3 at one end terminating in an internal lip formed by a shoulder 4 and annular ribs 6 on its external surface. The shoulder 4 is undercut at 5 and the external surface of the sleeve tapers inwardly from said one end to the other end which has a groove 7 therein. In use, the ribs 6 are compressed against the socket wall, the end of the sleeve having the groove 7 abuts a shoulder in the socket and the internal lip engages the spigot. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the undercut 5 and the groove 7 are both omitted.
