Abstract

1385240 Joint-making packing; pipe couplings PONT-A-MOUSSON SA 18 May 1972 [28 May 1971] 23417/72 Headings F2B and F2G A sealing sleeve for a spigot and socket joint between pipes (T<1> and T<2>) comprises an elastically yieldable skirt portion 1 having a smooth internal surface and an external surface having alternating annular grooves 1b and ridges 1a and a relatively rigid inwardly extending flange 2 at one end of the skirt portion. The flange 2 is reinforced by an embedded metal ring 3 and is joined to the skirt 1 by a frusto-conical face 2a. The other end of the sleeve has a flared portion 4 having inner and outer frusto-conical surfaces 5 and 6. In the free state of the sleeve, the inner diameter d of the skirt portion 1 is less than the outer diameter D<1> if the spigot end of the pipe T<1> and its external diameter D exceeds the inner diameter D<2> of the socket end of pipe T<2>. The pipes may be of plastics material.
