Abstract

1,165,663. Pipe joints. LOROWERK K. H. VAHLBRAUK K.G. 16 April, 1968 [6 Oct., 1967], No. 17803/68. Heading F2G. In a spigot-and-socket joint in which a packing 4 is compressed radially when the pipe 3 is pressed in, the packing sleeve is retained by a convergent bevel 2 of the socket 1 and is recessed to house a harder reinforcing ring 5, e.g. of hard but resilient plastics material. The ring 5 has a projecting rim 9 and a peripheral groove 11 by means of which the ring is located on the outer edge of the socket. The sealing packing 4 has sealing lips 6 and 7. Pressure within the pipe not only drives the packing axially to increase its pressure, but also increases the pressure of lips 6 and 7. The body part 12 of the packing is axially longer than its thickness to enable it to withstand high pipe pressure.
