1383267 Pipe couplings GRANGES ESSEM AB 21 Feb 1973 [22 Feb 1972] 8513/73 Heading F2G To maintain the seal between a plastics socket 12 and a thermoplastics pipe 15, irrespective of cyclical variations in temperature, the pipe is gripped beyond the end of the socket, at a position, spaced from the sealing ring 14, by at least twice the wall thickness of the pipe. For small pipes, the spacing may be half the external diameter of the pipe. The securing sleeve 16 is of harder material than that of the pipe, e.g. acetal resin, in the case of a polythene pipe and brass, in the case of a p.v.c. pipe. It may be partially split by slots 21, or completely split, or divided into segments, which are resiliently pressed together by cover member 23. The play between the pipe and socket may be taken up by the pipe swelling at 26, under the liquid pressure.
