Abstract

1,213,414. Pipe joints. ALLIED IRONFOUNDERS Ltd. 21 July, 1969 [22 July, 1968], No. 34850/68. Heading F2G. A socket and spigot joint for plastics pipes 1, 5 conveying hot fluids, comprises an annular joining member 7 of a material with a softening point higher than that of the pipe material. The member 7 has socket and spigot formations at its ends and is sealingly secured to pipe 5 at end 6 by heat sealing or an adhesive. The other end 8 of the joining member, which may have a taper 9 to facilitate the axial movement thereof on expansion, is assembled with pipe 1 to form a joint which is sealed by means of sealing ring 4. The pipes 1, 5 are of polyvinylchloride and the joining member is made of chlorinated polyvinylchloride. The joining member is provided with surface marks 12 to determine the degree of insertion of the member during assembly.
