Abstract

1,116,612. Pipe bends. MARLEY TILE CO. Ltd. 23 Jan., 1967 [21 Jan., 1966], No. 2927/66. Heading F2G. A pipe bend comprises two components one 1 of which consists of a socket (or spigot) 3 integral with a first curved pipe portion 4 and the other 2 of which consists of a spigot (or socket) 7 integral with a second curved pipe portion 8, said curved pipe portions being telescopically received one within the other. The longer curved portion 8, which subtends an angle of 90 degrees as shown, overlies a shorter curved portion 4, which subtends an angle of 16 degrees as shown, and abuts a shoulder 9, the complete bend assembly subtending an angle of 90 degrees. To form a pipe bend subtending a larger angle, curved portion 8 is out along a radius so that it subtends the desired angle and fitted over the shorter curved portion, the two curved portions being sealingly cemented or solvent welded together. The cutting and sealing operations may be carried out on site or factory ready assemblies may be provided. In a modified pipe bend, the components are relatively short to provide pipe bends of 166 degrees to 175 degrees. In a further modification, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), the component having the shorter curved portion is provided with a spigot end and receives the longer curved portion of the other component, said longer curved portion having a series of radial marks each indicating the angle which the pipe bend will form when said longer curved portion is cut therealong. The pipe bend components are preferably injection moulded in synthetic resin material, e.g. polyvinyl chloride.
