Abstract

831,127. Pipe joints. CHICAGO FORGING & MANUFACTURING CO. May 11, 1956 [July 15, 1955], No. 14724/56. Class 99(1). A pipe A, Fig. 1, is joined to a fitting 1 by a nut 9 through which the pipe passes with a clearance 12 and which has a chamber containing a sealing ring 20 of rubber or similar elastic materials and a rigid ring 21 made of, e.g. nylon &c. adapted to prevent the nut and tube from touching one another. A rib 15 fixed on the tube is interposed between the rings. In a modification, Fig. 4, a rigid ring 26 has an annular part 26a extending between the tube and the outer end of the nut with clearances 28, 29 and a rigid ring 32 between an elastic ring 24 and a fitting 4 prevents extrusion of the elastic ring into the space between the tube and the fitting. The part 26a is turned over at 30 to connect the nut and ring. In Fig. 5, a rigid ring 52 has an extension 54, and an O-ring, oil-trap grooves or other seal is provided at 60 between an extrusion ring 58 and the fitting. In Fig. 6 (not shown) the rigid ring is similar to that of Fig. 5, the nut screws into the fitting and the elastic ring and rib are like those of Fig. 1. In Fig. 7 (not shown), the joint is similar to that of Fig. 4, but the rigid ring is reduced to a conical shield.
