Abstract
795,786. Pipe couplings; hose pipes. GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER CO. Dec. 12, 1955 [June 31, 1955], No. 35573/55. Classes 99(1) and 99(2). A rigid face plate 17 preferably made of metal is bonded, e.g., by vulcanization, to and radially substantially coextensive with the outer radial face of a flange 16 formed on the end of a rubber &c. hose pipe 15, which may then be coupled to a rigid pipe 12 by bolts 14 passing through a flange 11, the plate 17, the hose pipe and a retaining ring 13, an 0-sealing ring 20 being fitted in a groove 19. In Fig. 5 (not shown) the flange 16 lies wholly within the bolts 14. In Fig. 6, a nipple is connected to the end of the hose by a sleeve 40. A band 39 is provided to prevent distortion of the rubber while tightening the sleeve ; the face plate and band may be in one piece. In Fig. 7 (not shown) two hose pipes are coupled together, and in Fig. 8 (not shown) a gasket of rectangular cross section is interposed between the face plate and a flange on a rigid pipe.
