Abstract

831,294. Pipe joints. PLATT MALLEABLE CASTINGS Ltd. March 31, 1958 [June 1, 1957], No. 17487 /57. Class 99(1). In a device for compressing the seals for pipe joints of the bell and spigot type, an anchor ring A is secured on the bell portion 131 and a follower ring B is fitted slidably on the spigot 132 and shaped to fit around and substantially enclose the seal 20, bolts and nuts 18, 19 being provided for drawing the rings A, B, towards each other for compressing the seal 20. Both rings are provided at their ends with outwardly radially projecting eyes 101, 141 adapted to be engaged by bolts and nuts for receiving the rings to the pipes to be joined, the follower ring bolts 15 having mounted thereon at least one filler piece 17 conforming to the crosssection of the ring. The ring'A is formed of four similar segments 10 and the ring B consists of two segments 14.
