Abstract
1,147,375. Repairing leaks in pipe joints; joint making packing. GAS COUNCIL. 2 Nov., 1967 [3 Nov., 1966], No. 49387/66. Headings F2B and F2G. In a leak clamp assembly of the kind comprising a backing-up ring 8 in two or more parts clamped to a socket 18 by hook bolts 20 or bolts connected with an anchor ring placed behind the socket, the sealing ring is composite and consists of a ring 1 of natural or synthetic rubber and an inner ring 2 of nylon, the two rings having mating annular faces of circular arc form; the ring 2 forms the radially inner part of one end face of the composite ring and the adjacent part of the internal face of the composite ring while the ring 1 forms the radially outer part of that end face and part of the internal face remote from the end face. The inner and outer corners of the composite ring may be chamfered as shown and, for assembly on to the pipe 17, the outer ring 1 may have a diagonal split the faces of which are subsequently coated with adhesive, while a radial split is provided in the ring 2. The rings 1, 2 may be bonded together and have a common split passing therethrough.
