Abstract

456,914. Pipe joints. LEAD WOOL CO., Ltd., and MOULTON, F., Snodland, Kent. June 13, 1935, No. 17047. [Class 99 (i)] In a joint in which packing 30 is compressed within a socket 22 around a spigot 18, a thrust ring 36 in the mouth of the socket carries a number of compression screws which bear on the packing through a compression ring 32. The thrust ring may be secured in the socket by a number of helical ribs 38 engaging grooves in the socket, or a number of arcuate members 46, Fig. 7, are moved radially into recesses 48 by screws 54 which may also be the compression screws. The thrust ring may be replaced by nuts 64, Fig. 8, held in recesses in the socket, and the compression screws may be inclined to the axis of the pipes. In a further modification the compression screws are arranged radially, compression rings 70, 80, Fig. 9, having coacting wedge faces 82.
