Abstract

840,696. Pipe joints. OLDHAM, C. A. E. April 3, 1957 [Nov. 2, 1956], No. 33490/56. Class 99(1). In a joint for coupling opposed tubular members 2 and of the kind wherein the members have internal flares 3 containing the ends of a rigid ring 4 provided with a periphery which decreases in diameter towards the ends of the ring, the latter has oppositely-arranged, substantially conical, peripheral surfaces or sides 5, the angle of inclination of those surfaces to the axis of the ring being between 20 and 30 degrees, and the flared portions of the members are convexly curved. As shown, the ring has a sleeve 12 slotted lengthwise at 13 to provide springy segments ; the latter have rounded ribs 14 that are received in an annular groove 15 in one of the members 2. A segmental coupling-ring, contracted by a screw, embraces the chamfered flanges 7 of the members. In a modification, the surfaces 5 are convexly curved.
