The joint comprises a socket 9 having a smooth, cylindrical bore, a rubber sealing sleeve 3 surrounding each pipe end, a collar 10 fitting within each end of the socket, means such as bolts 12 drawing the collars together to compress the sleeves, and locator means 7 spaced from the collars engaging the pipe ends, and the sleeves. The locators may be circlips engaging peripheral grooves in the sleeves and having cranked ends 8a and intermediate portions 8b which extend into radial slots 4, 6 in the sleeves and pipes. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the circlips engage peripheral grooves in sphericallyfaced metal rings located in corresponding recesses in the facing ends of the sleeves. In other forms, Figs. 5 and 7 (not shown), a single rubber sleeve bridges the gap between the pipes and has an internal annular groove registering with each pipe end, the grooves being engaged, in one form, by metal rings riveted to the pipes, and in the other by circlips of similar form to that shown in Fig. 2. In a further modification a central rubber sleeve 3 is separated from end sleeves 25, Fig. 9, by washers 26 having internal saw teeth adapted to dig into the pipes.
